Smart EV Charger Setup in Thornhill

A smart charger connects to your home WiFi so you can set it to run only during the ultra-low overnight window, watch how much energy each session uses, and start or stop charging from your phone. For Thornhill households juggling two EVs or a tight off-peak schedule, that control turns into real savings month after month.

Your contractor should install and configure the leading WiFi-connected models, get them talking to your network, and show you how to set charging schedules before handover. You drive off knowing the charger is doing the thinking so your hydro bill stays low.

The scheduling piece is where a smart charger earns its keep in Thornhill. Set it once to charge inside the ultra-low overnight window, and every session after that runs at the cheapest rate Alectra offers without you thinking about it. The app also settles household debates about what the car costs to run, since each session is logged in kilowatt-hours. One practical note from local installs: WiFi signal at the front of a garage is often weaker than inside the house, especially on exterior-mounted units, so your contractor should test the connection at the charger location before handover and suggest a simple extender if the signal is marginal. A charger that drops offline still charges your car, but you lose the scheduling and tracking that make it worth having, so ask for scheduling and connectivity to be demonstrated before handover.

A timer or app schedule controls when charging starts. It is different from an approved EV energy management system that monitors household demand. A Licensed Electrical Contractor confirms capacity, any required monitoring equipment and the allowed charging current.
